3. In the community of believers God’s justice can be experienced in the midst of an unjust world.
(James 2.1, NKJV). My brethren, do not hold the faith of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Lord of glory, with partiality. [2.2] For if there should come into your assembly a man with gold rings, in fine apparel, and there should also come in a poor man in filthy clothes, [2.3] and you pay attention to the one wearing the fine clothes and say to him, “You sit here in a good place,’’ and say to the poor man, ”You stand there,’’ or, “Sit here at my footstool,’’ [2.4] have you not shown partiality among yourselves, and become judges with evil thoughts? [2.5] Listen, my beloved brethren: Has God not chosen the poor of this world to be rich in faith and heirs of the Kingdom which he promised to those who love him? (Colossians 3.9, NIV) Do not lie to each other, since you have taken off your old self with its practices [3.10] and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator. [3.11] Here there is no Greek or Jew, circumcised or uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave or free, but Christ is all, and is in all.
II. The Church is the Agent (the Deputy) Where the Authority and Power of the Kingdom of God are Heralded and Enforced.
The Church of Jesus Christ is the Agent through which his kingdom authority and power are being exercised, and the Army through which his war is waged against his enemies. The Church of Jesus is the vehicle through which the Spirit of God announces the Good News of the Kingdom, and demonstrates its force in the midst of the contested ground of the earth.
A. The Church is the agent of apostolic witness and word.
1. We as the Church are called to be ambassadors of Christ to proclaim deliverance in Jesus name to the world, 2 Corinthians 5.18-21.
2. We as Church are called to be stewards of God’s mysteries to protect the faith.
(1 Corinthians 4.2, NKJV) Moreover it is required in stewards that one be found faithful.
(Jude 1.3, NKJV) Beloved, while I was very diligent to write to you concerning our common salvation, I found it necessary to write to you exhorting you to contend earnestly for the faith which was once for all delivered to the saints.
