1 John 3.24a - Those who obey his commands live in him and he in them. (Cf. Eph. 1.1-14 and Col. 2.6-10 for passages that further develop the “in him” concept.)

Note that the following is a typological interpretation of the Scriptures. Biblical typology is based on the recognition that events, persons, and places which appear early on in salvation history become the patterns by which later events are interpreted. The Exodus (which includes the Passover, the Red Sea crossing, and the desert journey to Canaan) has a long history of being used as a type in Christian interpretation. This usage traces back to Paul himself who wrote: 1 Cor. 10.1-4 - For I do not want you to be ignorant of the fact, brothers, that our forefathers were all under the cloud and that they all passed through the sea. [2] They were all baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea. [3] They all ate the same spiritual food [4] and drank the same spiritual drink; for they drank from the spiritual Rock that accompanied them, and that Rock was Christ. Listed in this section are the fundamental truths written in sentence form which the students should have received from this lesson, that is, from the videos and your guided discussion with them. Make sure that these concepts are clearly defined and carefully considered, for their quiz work and exams will be taken from these items directly. What is especially important is to help the students gain a working vocabulary of these ideas in order that they might become more and more familiar with them. This familiarity will be key for them as they continue to train and teach others on the nature of the Church. The clearer your students are on the nature of the Church, the better it will be for them to articulate and help define for their students the function and ministry of the Church. The one is directly related to the other. The more they can see the Church as God sees her, the more fluid and flexible they will be to imagine the Church in a fresher and new ministry in their own community, and the nation and world at large.
