Conclusion

» Jesus Christ is the Elect Servant of God, the one through whom God saves out of the world a people for himself. » God has elected a nation to be the vessel through whom Messiah would come, the nation Israel, and a community of faith made up of both Jews and Gentiles, the Church of God in Jesus Christ. » God’s election underscores the glory of his sovereignty, the wonder of his grace, the critical nature of evangelism, and the certainty of our salvation. Please take as much time as you have available to answer these and other questions that the video brought out. Undoubtedly, the concept of God’s election is difficult and complex, but all is made clearer when one realizes that God has elected Christ to represent him, and elects us in him. Still, many valid questions remain about the nature of God’s foreknowledge, his elective purpose, and just how God works out all things together for the good of those who believe on him, those called according to his purpose. Seek to understand the critical concepts associated with this theme, especially underscoring the important role that Christ plays in all discussion of God’s election. Be clear and concise in your answers, and where possible, support with Scripture! 1. In what sense do the Scriptures teach us that Jesus Christ is the Elect Servant of God, the one through whom God saves out of the world a people for himself? 2. What titles are given to Jesus by the apostles and prophets which reveal a unique and unrepeatable relationship between Jesus of Nazareth and Yahweh God? 3. How are we to understand the relationship of those elected to salvation and Jesus Christ? In what way can we say that the elect are elected by virtue of their union with Jesus, who himself is the true Elect Servant of God? 4. In what ways does Israel serve as a sign and precursor of God’s elect people? According to the Scriptures, what are some of the reasons God elected Israel as a nation through his covenant with Abraham?
