Think Again!

116 • Think Again: Transformation That Yields a Return on God’s Investment

In the same way, Gather Subjectively is a way to list all the various feelings you are experiencing at that moment. Do not be organized or rational, simply list the various emotions you feel (sad, glad, mad, guilty, or scared). This can be written down or done in your head. For example:

• I’m worried about my daughter’s grades. • I’m happy about my project at work.

• I’m upset about my neighbor’s fence falling down. • I’m angry about Jim’s offensive jokes at work. • I’m guilty for losing my temper with my mother.

You don’t need to evaluate these feelings, assign meaning to them, or counter them with truth. Just inventory them . Your feelings serve as an indicator of what you believe about the circumstances in your life. They help you evaluate where your mental energy is being applied at that moment. Your feelings are like a metal detector that identifies where your beliefs are buried.

After some reflection, you might discover some underlying ideas that you didn’t see at the surface. For example:

• Nobody cares about me. • I have no talent. • I’m miserable. • I’m lonely.

• I’m helpless. • I’m nervous. • I’m uninteresting. • I’m no good.
