such potential for fullness of life, ending in the crescendo: “To him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever. Amen” (Eph. 3.21). Reservoir of Potential Jesus is like a vast reservoir of living water for a thirsty world. He said, “The water that I will give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life” (John 4.14). But without Christ’s work of victory over the devil, there would be no reservoir for us to access. • He was tempted and victorious. • He triumphed in his healings, teachings, exorcisms. • He lived a life of righteous example. • He died, was buried, raised to life and has ascended to the throne. From the fruit of his victories, he provides gifts so we can carry out his work (Eph. 4.7-12). He rules and reigns to provide a constant source of living water through us. We create, bless, protect, and serve as his nozzles to extinguish the fires of despair. We are the instruments that Christ chooses to use to dispense his grace. Not for Us But for Others Jesus won the spoils of victory over the devil and empowers us to continue his conquest. He transferred us from the domain of darkness into his Kingdom of light (Col. 1.13-14). And now through our baptism into Christ, we have confidence, because our efforts have eternal value in him. He paved the way for us to follow. His Great Commission (Matt. 28.18-20) is an expression of his authority, directing us to teach others to be obedient to his commands.
