3. They were told that they could not endure alone: they were to stand together or not at all!, Phil. 1.27-28 – Only let your manner of life be worthy of the gospel of Christ, so that whether I come and see you or am absent, I may hear of you that you are standing firm in one spirit, with one mind striving side by side for the faith of the gospel, [28] and not frightened in anything by your opponents. This is a clear sign to them of their destruction, but of your salvation, and that from God.

III. Connection: Learn to Wait – Overcome Frustration and Discouragement in Prayer. Learn to Stand Your Ground.

A. T HE K EY P RINCIPLE . Discouragement breeds defeat, but prayer produces perseverance.

B. D ISCOURAGEMENT B REEDS D EFEAT . Discouragement feeds on the idea that things won’t change, get any better, or will ever be overcome. Be careful of doubt, for it fuels discouragement! 1. No matter what, remember God’s got a hold on you!, Ps. 37.23-24 – The steps of a man are established by the LORD, when he delights in his way; [24] though he fall, he shall not be cast headlong, for the LORD upholds his hand. 2. God has established us, anointed us, and sealed us – in order that we can go on!, 2 Cor. 1.21-22 – And it is God who establishes us with you in Christ, and has anointed us, [22] and who has also put his seal on us and given us his Spirit in our hearts as a guarantee.

3. God uses trial and trouble to build us into qualified spiritual warriors!
