delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night. [3] He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers.
2. The principal insight : Realistic, attainable goals are more likely to be attained than great leaps and broad jumps.
3. The practical implementation : As you begin your quest for a more disciplined life, set accomplishable goals, and gradually increase over time.
F. Begin immediately and enthusiastically.
1. The biblical idea
a. 2 Cor. 6.1-2 – Working together with him, then, we appeal to you not to receive the grace of God in vain. [2] For he says, “In a favorable time I listened to you, and in a day of salvation I have helped you.” Behold, now is the favorable time; behold, now is the day of salvation. b. Heb. 3.7-13 – Therefore, as the Holy Spirit says, “Today, if you hear his voice, [8] do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion, on the day of testing in the wilderness, [9] where your fathers put me to the test and saw my works [10] for forty years. Therefore I was provoked with that generation, and said, ‘They always go astray in their heart; they have not known my ways.’ [11] As I swore in my wrath, ‘They shall not enter my rest.’” [12] Take care, brothers, lest there be in any of you an evil, unbelieving heart, leading you to fall away from the living God.
