A Compe l l i ng Tes t imony

1. Definition of the discipline of the Word: Ingesting of the Word is the chief means whereby we hear the voice of God through the Spirit-inspired and illumined Word of God (i.e., our Holy Bible).

a. Jer. 15.16 – Your words were found, and I ate them, and your words became to me a joy and the delight of my heart, for I am called by your name, O Lord, God of hosts.

b. Job 23.12 – I have not departed from the command ment of his lips; I have treasured the words of his mouth more than my portion of food.

c. Ps. 19.10 – More to be desired are they than gold, even much fine gold; sweeter also than honey and drippings of the honeycomb.

d. Ps. 119.101-103 – I hold back my feet from every evil way, in order to keep your word. [102] I do not turn aside from your rules, for you have taught me. [103] How sweet are your words to my taste, sweeter than honey to my mouth!

2. The unique nature of the Holy Scriptures

a. They are inspired by God the Holy Spirit, 2 Tim. 3.16; Acts 1.16; Heb. 3.7; 2 Pet. 1.21.

b. Jesus affirmed their sacred nature and character, and appealed to them as final truth, Matt. 4.4; Mark 12.10; John 7.42.
