4. The Scriptures, the primary content of the discipline of meditation, possess unique characteristics for the upbuilding of the soul and spirit.

a. They are described as pure words, Ps. 12.6; Ps. 119.140; Prov. 30.5.

b. They were given for our very life, not just religious instruction, Deut. 8.3-4.

c. They represent the truth of God, Ps. 119.160; John 17.17.

d. They are perfect in their character, Ps. 19.7.

e. They are unbelievably precious and invaluable, Ps. 19.10.

f. They are alive and full of power, Heb. 4.12.

g. They cannot be broken, i.e., they will never fail in regards to the promises and revelations that God provides to us through them, John 10.35.

h. They were preserved for our instruction, Rom. 15.4.

i. The revelations contained in them were written for the salvation of all people, Rom. 16.26.
