interpreted in light of one another, Deut. 4.2; Deut. 12.32; 1 Cor. 2.13

b. The Word of God is given to us in order to illumine the person of Christ, who is their proper subject and theme, John 5.39-40 – You search the Scriptures because you think that in them you have eternal life; and it is they that bear witness about me, [40] yet you refuse to come to me that you may have life (cf. John 1.45; Deut. 18.15; Acts 26.22-23; Rom. 1.2; 1 Pet. 1.10-11; Luke 24.27; Luke 24.44).

c. The Scriptures can be understood in a number of different ways

(1) Hear the Word, Luke 11.28 – But he said, “Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and keep it!” (Cf. Prov. 8.34; Luke 6.47-48; 8.21; Rom. 10.17). (2) Read the Word, Rev. 1.3 – Blessed is the one who reads aloud the words of this prophecy, and blessed are those who hear, and who keep what is written in it, for the time is near.
