(3) Study the Word, Acts 17.11 – Now these Jews were more noble than those in Thessalonica; they received the word with all eagerness, examining the Scriptures daily to see if these things were so. (See also Isa. 34.16 – Seek and read from the book of the Lord: Not one of these shall be missing; none shall be without her mate. For the mouth of the Lord has commanded, and his Spirit has gathered them, cf. 2 Tim. 3.15ff; 1 Pet. 1.10-12.) (4) Memorize the Word, Ps. 119.11 – I have stored up your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you. (See also Col. 3.16 – Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God, and Ps. 119.93 I will never forget your precepts, for by them you have given me life, cf. Prov. 2.1-9; Isa. 51.7; Jer. 15.16; 20; Luke 2.19, 51.) (5) Meditate upon the Word, Ps. 1.1-3 – Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers; [2] but his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night. [3] He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers (cf. Josh 1.8; Ps. 104.34; 119.15, 97-99).
d. The Scriptures when properly consumed as our necessary food (cf. Jer. 15.16) produce profound results spiritually.
(1) They provide full and sufficient knowledge of salvation, Luke 16.29, 31; 2 Tim. 3.15; Ps. 19.7.
(2) Can regenerate the soul, quicken our spirits, and sustain our lives, James 1.18; 1 Pet. 1.23; Ps. 119.50, 93; Deut. 8.3; Matt. 4.4
