(4) Reflection: “A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to rest, and poverty will come upon you like a robber, and want like an armed man.”
C. The Corporate Dimensions: critical inquiry in the body is built on the rock-solid foundation of finding corroborating witnesses.
1. The inviolate standard for the discipline of truth-seeking in the body of Christ, corroboration by two or three wit nesses, 2 Cor. 13.1 – This is the third time I am coming to you. Every charge must be established by the evidence of two or three witnesses.
2. Old Testament citations
a. Num. 35.30 – If anyone kills a person, the murderer shall be put to death on the evidence of witnesses. But no person shall be put to death on the testimony of one witness.
b. Deut. 17.6 – On the evidence of two witnesses or of three witnesses the one who is to die shall be put to death; a person shall not be put to death on the evidence of one witness.
c. The need for diligence in search of the truth, Deut. 19.18 – The judges shall inquire diligently, and if the witness is a false witness and has accused his brother falsely, [19] then you shall do to him as he had meant to do to his brother. So you shall purge the evil from your midst.
