to good works, so as to help cases of urgent need, and not be unfruitful.

d. We are to stir this calling up among one another, Heb. 10.24 – And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works

4. Our commitment to good works in the midst of a selfish, ego-centric world will strengthen the testimony of the Gospel (i.e., stinginess and selfishness undermine Kingdom testimony), 1 Pet. 2.12 – Keep your conduct among the Gentiles honorable, so that when they speak against you as evil doers, they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day of visitation.

5. “Charity begins at home.” We are to do good to all, but especially to the household of God.

a. Gal. 6.10 – So then, as we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone, and especially to those who are of the household of faith.

b. Believers around the globe belong to us as saints and family, Eph. 2.19 – So then you are no longer strangers and aliens, but you are fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God.

c. We prove our discipleship by our care for our brothers and sisters

(1) The new commandment in the body, John 13.34-35 – A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. [35] By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.
