a. 1 John 2.15-17 – Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. [16] For all that is in the world – the desires of the flesh and the desires of the eyes and pride in possessions – is not from the Father but is from the world. [17] And the world is passing away along with its desires, but whoever does the will of God abides forever.
b. James 4.4 – You adulterous people! Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Therefore whoever wishes to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God.
c. Gal. 5.16-18 – But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. [17] For the desires of the flesh are against the Spirit, and the desires of the Spirit are against the flesh, for these are opposed to each other, to keep you from doing the things you want to do. [18] But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law. d. 1 Pet. 5.8-9 – Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. [9] Resist him, firm in your faith, knowing that the same kinds of suffering are being experienced by your brotherhood throughout the world.
e. James 4.7 – Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
