Though in affliction’s furnace tried, Unhurt on snares and death I’ll tread; Though sin assail, and hell, thrown wide, Pour all its flames upon my head, Like Moses’ bush, I’ll mount the higher, And flourish unconsumed in fire.
~ Charles Wesley, 1707-1788.
My Strength and My Help Just to Guide Me
Through the darkest of days You have guided my ways My Light that has ever been shining Through the times of deep loss As I carry my cross A blessing for me You’re designing
When the fight’s all ablaze Against the god of this age When my strength runs away, seems to leave me Through discouragement sore And I can’t fight anymore Your Spirit comes close to receive me
I don’t know just where I’d be If You hadn’t been there for me
Through the good and the bad Through the happy and sad Your Spirit is there just to hide me
My Strength and my Shield Through You I am healed My Strength and my Help just to guide me
At the moment of death In this life’s final breath You will be there, Lord, to take me At the end of my life At the end of all strife Your mercy shall ever remake me
~ Don L. Davis, 2005.
