He came in secrecy and squalor Angels sang about his birth He’s the poor son of a carpenter Straight out of Nazareth What can we expect this man to be? Firstborn, Everlasting Father Son of Man and Mighty God Born into the very earth That He Himself had made He’s the Beginning and the End He is the Temple and its Builder The Foundation firm and sure He’s the nail that holds things fast and true The Tested Cornerstone The High Priest and Sacrificial Lamb He’s a Root out of the dry ground And a Tender Shoot and Twig He’s the owner of the harvest field The bearer of the Tree The ever-living Vine where we abide

He’s the Solid Rock to stand on Bread and Water that sustains He’s the Sun of Righteousness And the Sheltering Shade He is the Lord of all the earth King of Love and Son of God Humble, suffering servant The forsaken Man of Sorrows Brings Good News to the poor Dear Desire of every land He’s a Teacher and a Shepherd Freer of all those in chains He’s wonderful in counsel The blessed Prince of Peace Mighty Hero of the War
