We Together Form One, United Troop: Everyone Deserves A Salute Lt. General Lewis Burwell “Chesty” Puller was one of the most admired and decorated officers in the history of the Marine Corps. Of his many admirable traits, Puller was respected by enlisted U.S. Marines because of his consistent effort to ensure that all the soldiers had the best possible gear and working conditions. He was a stickler for providing good equipment and demanding clear discipline for all soldiers. A story goes that once he came upon a second lieutenant who, encountering an enlisted man who forgot to salute him, then ordered the poor fellow to salute him 100 times. After hearing the story, Puller told the lieutenant, “You were absolutely correct in making him salute you 100 times lieutenant, but you know that an officer must return every salute he receives. Now return them all–and I will keep count.”

Among our band of brothers, everyone deserves to be saluted.

As a band of brothers in spiritual warfare, we know the reasons why we fight . . .

• For the sake of Jesus Christ • To rescue those who are oppressed by the enemy • To gain the reward of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus
