4. Translators use different types of language and styles in their translations.

a. They use different dialects .

(1) British - KJV, Jerusalem Bible, J.B. Phillips

(2) American - RSV, NASB

(3) Combination - NIV

b. They use different styles of language .

(1) Formal styles: KJV, NKJV, RSV

(2) Moderately formal styles: NIV, NRSV, TEV

(3) Informal styles: Phillips, LB, CEV

c. Special cases also exist.

(1) Paraphrases . Paraphrases are versions of the Bible that have not been translated from the original languages. Instead an existing translation has been reworded in an attempt to make it clearer or more accessible. (2) Amplified Version. The Amplified Version gives all possible meanings for key words used in the text. (3) Jewish translation . In the 20th century some very important Jewish translations of the Bible have been published. The Holy Scriptures according to the Masoretic Text: ANew Translation , and The Complete Jewish Bible .
