A. Lawrence O. Richards:

1. Hook: Capture the student’s attention.

2. Book: Teach the student lesson content from the Scriptures.

3. Look: Help the student draw a principle for application.

4. Took: Give (or help the student create) a practical assignment that will help them use the principle they learned.

B. Thomas H. Groome:

1. Focusing activity: Focus the student’s attention on the topic.

2. Five movements:

a. Naming Present Action: have the student share about their personal experiences and feelings in relation to the subject being taught. b. The Participants’ Stories and Visions: help students reflect on what they believe about the topic and what they do because of it. c. The Christian Community Story and Vision: the teacher shares with students what the Scriptures and the Church have to say about the topic. d. Dialectical Hermeneutic between the Story and the Participants’ Stories: students are invited to reflect on how their current actions and feelings are affected by the Christian Story. e. Dialectical Hermeneutic between the Vision and the Participants’ Visions: students are invited to choose a faith response that will allow them to act on what they have learned.
