» The Word that calls us to discipleship, community, and freedom, also calls us to mission. We have been called to fulfill the Great Commission, to do battle with our spiritual enemy the devil, and to demonstrate the life of the Kingdom through our love and good works.
The following questions were designed to help you review the material in the second video segment. In understanding the nature of the Word that calls, we get a glimpse into the richness of what it means to be God’s person, and to be a part of his chosen people. Be clear and concise in your answers, and where possible, support with Scripture! 1. What is the meaning of the biblical terms “regeneration” and “adoption,” and how do these concepts help us to understand the nature of God’s call to living in community? 2. How does the Holy Spirit, as the Spirit of adoption, help us to live and work as members of the family and people of God? 3. What are some of the major implications of suggesting the Word has called us to community? In light of these, is it possible to live out the life of discipleship and fail to be a member of a healthy body of believers? Explain your answer. 4. What does it mean that we have been called to live free in Jesus Christ? How specifically did God set us free, that is, what set us free precisely? 5. What are the elements and things from which God set us free? For what things has God set us free to do? 6. What constraints has the Lord placed on our freedom, in other words, what are the limits (if any) to the freedom that we enjoy? For what purposes have we been set free in Christ? 7. We are called to mission. What are the specific charges or tasks associated with the Church’s call to engage in God’s mission? 8. If Jesus has already won the battle over the devil and his minions, what exactly are we called to do as we do battle with the enemy in this world?
