In the Name of Jesus, Come out of Him

A dear sister has been diligently watching different teachers on religious television programming on the necessity and process of deliverance ministries. Completely convinced of the teaching, she has begun to teach the women in her Sunday School class that many (if not most) of the problems that believers experience and encounter are due to their neglect of casting out demons in their lives. She has begun to concentrate on this ministry, teaching techniques to release them; to identify them, to rebuke them, and claim victory over them. Some of the sisters disagree with this teaching, saying that the Apostles nowhere ask us to engage in this kind of activity. How would you handle this situation?

All Are Called to Go

In a recent missions conference at church, one of the visiting missionaries taught that, since God has called the Church to mission, everyone ought to assume that they have been called to go. If you choose to remain and not go to a field where Jesus is not known, the missionary said, you must justify your decision, because the Great Commission is to go, and it is a commission to the entire Church. Do you believe that all believers are called to go, only some are called to go, and others called to support or what?

Groovin’ Hard for Jesus

In order to reach some of the gang kids in the neighborhood, the youth group has begun to sponsor some rap concert events, to draw these kids to the church. The youth group has totally embraced this vision, having repainted the youth room with “tag” art, investing some of their saved earnings in getting really nice (“nice” = really loud!) PA equipment, along with turn-tables, break-dancing, the whole works. When confronted with the worldly caste of their outreach, the youth have said, “We are using our freedom in order to save some, like Paul.” What do you think of the argument they make? What should they be proud of in their position? What should they be concerned about?”
