A. The Scriptures teach that sin is universal in scope and corrupting in its nature.
John 16.7-11 “Nevertheless, I tell you the truth: it is to your advantage that I go away, for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you. But if I go, I will send him to you. And when he comes, he will convict the world concerning sin and righteousness and judgment: concerning sin, because they do not believe in me; concerning righteousness, because I go to the Father, and you will see me no longer; concerning judgment, because the ruler of this world is judged.”
1. Sin is universal in scope.
a. Romans 3.23 says that all have sinned and fall short of God’s glorious design.
b. Sin is against God and sin is disobedience against his commandments.

2. Sin is everything that is contrary to and fails to conform to God’s character and purpose.
a. It touches all people and corrupts all humankind equally.
b. Sin is universal in scope, utterly corrupting character, Rom. 3.9-12.
3. We are guilty before God, Rom. 5.18-19.
