The Word that Convicts
Segment 2
Rev. Dr. Don L. Davis
In this segment we will discover the Word of God’s ability to convict regarding the nature of truth, and therefore learn of its capacity to transform our lives and perspectives through the Holy Spirit. The Word of God reveals the Christ-centered nature of God’s revelation, the Kingdom Story as the backdrop of God’s overall teaching throughout Scripture, and the integrity of the Bible because of its association with the Holy Spirit through the inspired prophets and Apostles. Their testimony provides the Scriptures with final authority for faith and practice, and utter reliability in matters of judgment and truth. Our objective for this second segment of The Word that Convicts is to enable you to understand and articulate to others the truths that: • The Word of God convicts us of the truth. God’s Word is inspired by the Holy Spirit and connected with the God of truth who cannot lie. It is, therefore, God’s unfailing witness and record of the truth. It produces conviction regarding the nature of truth, i.e., what is true concerning God, his work in the world, and the destiny and purpose of humankind. • God’s Word produces deep conviction about the primary subject of the Scriptures: the revelation of the person and work of Jesus Christ. • God’s Word also produces conviction regarding the overarching backdrop of all of God’s revelation: the revelation of his kingdom plan. • God has established his Word. It produces conviction through the integrity of God’s chosen messengers, the prophets and Apostles, who were given the task to represent and to speak of God’s person and plan.
