124 Sacred Roots Workshop: Retr ieving the Great Tradi t ion in the Contemporary Church

1. Reclaim the concept of the “daily office” or the “family altar.” Practice individual, couple, and family devotions in the context of the shared spirituality of the entire gathered assembly.

2. Develop the disciplines individually through the “alone together” model of spirituality (e.g., the celebration of the Passover in families alone, but together as a nation).

a. Continue to develop individual walks and life of devotion.

b. Integrate these walks in the shared journey of the Church through its focus on the person and work of Christ in the Church Year.

c. Concentrate on simultaneous experience and shared emphasis: ensure opportunities for disciplined effort as individuals, families, and as a community in the remembrances shared in the Church Year.

3. Use the same reading guides, dialogues, Scripture texts, memory verses, prayer books, devotional treatises in order to reinforce your sharing the same concepts, ideas, prayers, longings.

C. Stimulate fresh expressions of your worship in small groups of disciples, those using their gifts to enrich one another’s walk in Christ.
