Evangelism The Content of the Good News of the Kingdom

Welcome to the Mentor’s Guide for Lesson 2, Evangelism: The Content of the Good News of the Kingdom . The overall focus of the Evangelism and Spiritual Warfare module is to help your students come to grips with the deliverance that God has done in liberating creation and humankind through the appearance of Jesus in the world, and see evangelism as the declaration and demonstration of the liberation to those who do not know the Lord. The first lesson laid out the dilemma of the universe, i.e., the bondage, alienation, suffering, and death that undergirds all things as a result of the Curse upon us due to the rebellion of the devil and the first human pair. The Bible is essentially divided up into two unequal halves. The first, Genesis 1.1-3.15, outlines God’s good creation, the entrance of sin and disobedience into the world, the Fall, the Curse, and the protoevangelium , or first telling of the Gospel. God promises to destroy the head of the serpent through the Seed of the woman, whose heal would be bruised in the warfare. The second half of the Bible, Genesis 3.16 till the end of the book, outlines the actual working of God to bring about the deliverance promised in this first covenant. Evangelism is the proclamation and demonstration of this promised, prophesied salvation which God has done in the person of Jesus Christ. Evangelism is the proclamation of God’s salvation, or his deliverance from the dominion of the devil and of the Curse. This message of deliverance, this Good News, has specific content focused on the person of Jesus Christ, and that is at the heart of the purpose of this second lesson. Please notice again in the objectives that these truths are clearly stated. As usual, your responsibility as Mentor is to emphasize these concepts throughout the lesson, especially during the discussions and interaction with the students. The more you can highlight the objectives throughout the class period, the better the chances are that they will understand and grasp the magnitude of these objectives. This devotion highlights the Good News as the entrustment of God passed down to us through Jesus, the apostles, and those who have preceded us. In a sense the Gospel is a remarkable treasure that is “all in the family,” a family treasure that is to be shared and protected. We have been entrusted with the very words of eternal life, the words of deliverance and rescue, the word of salvation and peace, and all those who embrace this call to guard and share this legacy must be found utterly faithful.
