What the apostles have provided us constitutes the very salvation of God, and therefore no one can lightly or glibly embrace this calling. It demands absolute faithfulness and integrity. It is only for those whose personal and spiritual lives are a reflection of the One whom they love and serve. Notice how Paul speaks of this high calling: 2 Cor. 4.2 - But we have renounced disgraceful, underhanded ways. We refuse to practice cunning or to tamper with God’s word, but by the open statement of the truth we would commend ourselves to everyone’s conscience in the sight of God. 2 Cor. 2.17 - For we are not, like so many, peddlers of God’s word, but as men of sincerity, as commissioned by God, in the sight of God we speak in Christ. 2 Cor. 11.13-15 - For such men are false apostles, deceitful workmen, disguising themselves as apostles of Christ. [14] And no wonder, for even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light. [15] So it is no surprise if his servants, also, disguise themselves as servants of righteousness. Their end will correspond to their deeds. 1 Thess. 2.3-5 - For our appeal does not spring from error or impurity or any attempt to deceive, [4] but just as we have been approved by God to be entrusted with the gospel, so we speak, not to please man, but to please God who tests our hearts. [5] For we never came with words of flattery, as you know, nor with a pretext for greed— God is witness. To be God’s witness, you must have witnessed God and been changed through the vision. Make sure that you give ample time and attention to the importance of the memorized Word throughout the course. The benefits of the memorized Word are so bold and amazing that it would do the students well to hear you give your own assessment of its importance.
