Why is one’s own churchmanship so important to discipling others? Can or should we even attempt to disciple another if we refuse to participate in a local assembly under the authority of legitimate pastoral authority? Explain. 9. In planting a church, what is the role of discipling leaders? Are there differences in training emerging Christian leaders for the exercise of authority in the body, and training Christians to live the Christian life? Explain your answer. (You may want to refer to the chapters in the NT that focus on leadership discipleship, e.g., Acts 20, 1 Tim. 3; Titus 1; 1 Pet. 5; Eph. 4, etc.). This lesson focuses upon the concept of follow-up and discipleship in church planting in the city. The acts of follow-up and discipleship welcome new believers into the Church and ground them in the faith respectively. Nothing ensures the viability of disciples in the body more than the deliberate incorporating of new believers in the local assembly of believers, which is God’s agent of the Kingdom in this world. The concepts below summarize the key insights this lesson was designed to offer on these important spiritual ministries. Carefully meditate on them as they fill out the notion of welcoming new believers into the body, building up in the body to the fullness of Christ, and using one’s gifts to contribute to fulfilling the Great Commission, all to the glory of God.
