1. Whatever term we employ regarding the Christian leader ( diakonos , poimen , presbyteros , or episkopos ), Jesus’ life and ministry fills out the details for the meaning of Christian leadership in the Church.

2. He is our Servant ( diakonia ), Rom. 15.8 - For I tell you that Christ became a servant to the circumcised to show God’s truthfulness, in order to confirm the promises given to the patriarchs.

3. He is our Elder Brother , Rom. 8.29 - For those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, in order that he might be the firstborn among many brothers .

4. He is our Chief Shepherd , 1 Pet. 5.4 - And when the chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the unfading crown of glory.

5. He is the Bishop of our souls , 1 Pet. 2.25 - For you were straying like sheep, but have now returned to the Shepherd and Overseer of your souls .

6. The standard of Christian leadership, then, is the exhortation of others to follow us as we follow Christ .
