B. The Deacon is a Steward .

The deacon is a steward, one who has been given a specific task to serve on behalf of others, distributing and administering resources in a just and compassionate way in order that all members of the assembly are cared for, nourished, and supplied with God’s good supply.

3. A day of reckoning will demonstrate the significance and usefulness of that servant, Luke 19.17.

C. The Deacon is an Assistant .

The deacon is an assistant, a side-car helper, one who works alongside the spiritual leaders in order to free them up to do what is of most value in the work of the ministry: the ministry of the Word and prayer.

1. Works side by side with the leaders in the Gospel, Phil. 4.2-3

2. Through division of labor, a deacon’s service allows the leaders to focus upon spiritual responsibilities and affairs, Acts 6.1-6

3. Helps to meet the needs of the leaders so they can fulfill God’s calling upon their lives, Rom. 16.2
