2. Spiritual priorities must be kept for a church to remain strong: The leaders are freed up to concentrate on their spiritual office under God.

B. We should encourage the growing believer to aspire to this office, 1 Tim. 3.13.

3. The diaconate is a ministry which resonates with the very person and work of Jesus Christ, Phil. 2.5-8.

C. Equip growing Christians to consider making themselves available for the diaconate.

1. Challenge them to the dignity and significance of the office.

2. Set up mechanisms to intern those who are willing to learn how to serve the members of the body.

3. Put up for candidacy those who show themselves faithful.

D. Only appoint or elect to the diaconate men and women of proven character.

1. They must be recognized in the body as true servants, cf. Acts 6.3.
