B. Implications of God’s governance over the universe
1. Is God the author of evil and sin ?
a. No! The chaos and destruction of the world has been caused by the rebellion of the devil and humankind in their opposition to God’s kingdom reign (God is not the author of sin, cf. James).

b. The trouble and cruelty of the world finds its source in the lust, greed, and pride of the world system, and those within it, 1 John 2.15-17.
c. Things meant for evil God can use for the good of his own purpose.
(1) The enslavement of Joseph, Gen. 50.20
(2) The death of Jesus, Acts 2.23
2. If God is not the author of evil and sin, why has or does he permit it ?
a. God’s providential will goes beyond our understanding of what is permitted and/or disallowed. As a sovereign God, he is working all things according to his will.
(1) All things find their source, sustenance, and end in God, Rom. 11.36.
(2) All things have been made for God’s glory, Prov. 16.4.
