D. Key theological principles concerning the gifts of the Spirit

1. Every believer is given spiritual gifts which the Church needs to fulfill Christ’s mission.

a. The direct teaching of Scripture

b. The metaphor of the human body

(1) 1 Cor. 12.14-30

(2) Every part of the body is different and has its own unique function but each part is necessary for the whole body to work correctly. Likewise each person in Christ’s body has different spiritual gifts and has their own unique function to play in the church but each person and their gifts are needed for the church to work correctly.

c. Discovering your spiritual gifts: four key questions

(1) What has God blessed?

When you minister to people and they are helped, it is usually a sign that you are using your spiritual gift. Spiritual gifts bear fruit. Results are often a sign of giftedness.
