Now is the time to try to nail down this high theology by applying it in actual ministry. What truth from the lesson did God quicken to your own heart? What particular situation comes to mind when you think about training people to understand the doctrine of the Holy Spirit? What part of this lesson will you think and pray about through the upcoming week. Reflecting on the person of the Holy Spirit has been challenging and difficult work in the history of the Church. You are called to enter into this long stream of theological reflection and see the practical implications for those that you lead and teach. Fortunately, you can ask the Holy Spirit himself to come and help you understand these deep truths and give you direct guidance as to how they need to affect your life and ministry. Do not neglect to ask the Spirit to illuminate the Scriptures we have studied. He will make clear their meaning and usefulness. The prayer that is located in the next section is a good way to get started on this. Holy Spirit of God, “open my eyes to see wonderful things in your word.” My understanding is limited, Your understanding is infinite. I “see through a glass darkly,” You search the thoughts of the one “who dwells in unapproachable light.” Teach me the meaning of the Scriptures you inspired. Illumine my mind to know the truth and to see what you want me to do because of it. Empower me to fulfill my
