b. Concise and clear: a sign of nervousness or boldness ?

3. Some first answers from the Pharisees, 9.16

a. “ This man is not from God , for he doesn’t keep the Sabbath.”

b. “How can a man who is a sinner do signs like this?”

c. “And there was a division among them,” 9.16.

4. The Pharisees’ second question: What do you say about him since he opened your eyes? “He is a prophet,” 9.17.

5. Calling of the parents about the blind man’s identity, and their answer: He is our son, but he is of age – ask him how he was healed (fear of backlash), 9.18-23.

B. Round Two of the official investigation, 9.24-34

1. The ever-present danger of excommunication or expulsion from the synagogue for believing that Jesus of Nazareth was the Messiah

a. John 12.42-43 – Nevertheless, many even of the authorities believed in him, but for fear of the Pharisees they did not confess it, so that they would not be put out of the synagogue; [43] for they loved the glory that comes from man more than the glory that comes from God.
