d. Phil. 1.29 – For it has been granted to you that for the sake of Christ you should not only believe in him but also suffer for his sake.

e. James 1.12 – Blessed is the man who remains steadfast under trial, for when he has stood the test he will receive the crown of life, which God has promised to those who love him.

f. 1 Pet. 4.13 – But rejoice insofar as you share Christ’s sufferings, that you may also rejoice and be glad when his glory is revealed.

B. The difficult two-day delay, John 11.5-16

1. Jesus’ love for the Bethany family: Now Jesus loved Martha and her sister and Lazarus , 11.5.

2. An odd way for the Messiah to show love: When he heard that Lazarus was ill, he stayed two days longer in the place where he was, 11.6.

3. Jesus’ resolve to go to Judea again, and the disciples’ shock at the thought, 11.7-8

4. The need to work while the sun is shining: If anyone walks in the day he does not stumble, because he sees the light of this world, 11.9-10.

a. If you walk in the day , you do not stumble.

b. If you walk in the night , you stumble for the light is not in you .
