8. Jesus’ final command: “Unbind him, and let him go,” 11.44b.
a. The Kingdom of God has arrived in the person of Jesus of Nazareth, Mark 1.14-15 – Now after John was arrested, Jesus came into Galilee, proclaiming the gospel of God, [15] and saying, “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe in the gospel.” b. John 5.25-26 – Truly, truly, I say to you, an hour is coming, and is now here, when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God, and those who hear will live. [26] For as the Father has life in himself, so he has granted the Son also to have life in himself.
V. “One Man Should Die for the People,” 11.45-57
A. The Council’s concern, 11.45-48
1. Mixed reaction to the miracle: many of the mourners who witnessed Lazarus’s resurrection believed in Jesus as Messiah, but some went to the Pharisees and told them about it, 11.45-46.
2. The chief priests and the Pharisees gathered the Council (Sanhedrin): What is we gon’ do? , 11.47a (for this man performs many signs : an acknowledgment of Jesus’ works , 11.47b).
