C. Jesus instructs Philip about his relationship to the Father, 14.8-11.
1. Philip’s painful question: Show us the Father and that’ll be enough for us, 14.8.
2. Jesus’ gentle rebuke for his lack of understanding about his person, 14.9-11
a. You still don’t know me yet, even after all this time with me?, 14.9.
b. Whoever has seen me has seen the Father. HOW CAN YOU SAY “Show us the Father,” 14.9b.
c. I am in the Father and the Father is in me (for two reasons).
(1) The words that I say I do not speak on my own authority, 14.10a.
(2) The Father who dwells in me does his works, 14.10b.
3. Believe me (i.e., my words) that the Father is in me OR ELSE believe on account of the works themselves , 14.11.
