II. The Promise of the Holy Spirit, 16.7-15
With the grief and sorrow of the apostles at full level, our Lord here suggests that their grief will not have the last say. Indeed, he is the Resurrection and the Life, and he will not be overcome by the evil desires and strategies of the devil or his representatives. God is at work in the person of Jesus of Nazareth, and this working would result eventually in the transformation of the disciples through the coming of the Spirit of truth, who would reveal Christ to them and empower them in new ways to represent the Kingdom, to God’s greater glory. This is the promise, and it will certainly come to pass, regardless of how bleak and troublesome the situation may appear.
