a. A tomb cut in the rock, Matt. 27.60 – and laid it in his own new tomb, which he had cut in the rock. And he rolled a great stone to the entrance of the tomb and went away.

b. Made secure by the temple guards, Matt. 27.64-66 – “Therefore order the tomb to be made secure until the third day, lest his disciples go and steal him away and tell the people, ‘He has risen from the dead,’ and the last fraud will be worse than the first.” [65] Pilate said to them, “You have a guard of soldiers. Go, make it as secure as you can.” [66] So they went and made the tomb secure by sealing the stone and setting a guard.

c. Brand new tomb, Luke 23.53 – Then he took it down and wrapped it in a linen shroud and laid him in a tomb cut in stone, where no one had ever yet been laid.

II. The Risen Lord, 20.1-31

A. The Resurrection of the King, 20.1-11

1. Mary’s grief and urgency, 20.1 (Note the time: on the first day of the week, Sunday.)

a. Mary comes to the tomb early, while it was still dark.

b. She noticed that the stone had been taken away from the tomb.

2. Mary runs to Peter and John: They have taken the Lord out of the tomb, and we do not know where they have laid hi m, 20.2.
