(4) Luke 23.50 – Now there was a man named Joseph, from the Jewish town of Arimathea. He was a member of the council, a good and righteous man.
b. Asks Pilate to remove Jesus’ body from the cross (Pilate consents)
c. Joseph takes away the body of Jesus.
2. Nicodemus and Joseph of Arimathea come with around 75 pounds of myrrh and aloes, 19.39.
3. Nicodemus and Joseph take Jesus’ body bound with the spices (according to Jewish custom), 19.40.
a. Lazarus, John 11.44 – The man who had died came out, his hands and feet bound with linen strips, and his face wrapped with a cloth. Jesus said to them, “Unbind him, and let him go.”
b. Ananias, Acts 5.6 – The young men rose and wrapped him up and carried him out and buried him.
4. In the place where Jesus was crucified there was a garden with a new tomb, “ in which no one had yet been laid, ” 19.41.
5. Necessity and urgency: the day of Preparation was close at hand, they laid Jesus there , 19.42.
