6. The Scriptures testify about Jesus of Nazareth, 5.39-40.
a. They searched the Scriptures diligently thinking that eternal life consisted in knowing and applying them , but they refused to come to Jesus.
b. The Scriptures testify concerning Jesus, and their rejection of Jesus consists of the rejection of and disobedience to Scripture.
7. Jesus has come in the name of the Father alone, 5.41-44.
a. He received no glory from people (he was the Father’s agent; public opinion or acceptance played no role in his representation, 5.41).
b. Those who rejected Jesus did not have the Father’s love in them.
c. They will receive someone who comes in his own name, but not Jesus who came in the Father’s name.
d. The Jewish authorities could not believe since they sought the glory which came from others and not from God alone, 5.44.
8. Moses bears witness to the legitimacy of Jesus as Messiah, 5.45-47.
a. The Pentateuch (i.e., the first five books of the OT) were ascribed to Moses, who wrote of and testified to the person of Jesus.
