4. Identity of Jesus’ siblings

a. His brothers: James, Joseph, Simon, and Judas (Matt. 13.55)

b. His sisters: Matt. 13.56 – And are not all his sisters with us? Where then did this man get all these things?

c. James (Jesus appeared to him after the resurrection, 1 Cor. 15.7), became a leader of the Jerusalem church (Acts 15.13), wrote the NT book bearing his name.

d. Judas (Jude) wrote the NT book bearing his name.

B. Confusion and controversies about Jesus’ identity, John 7.10-13

1. Jesus goes up to the feast in private, not publicly, 7.10.

2. Crowd’s response after Jesus

a. Some were looking for him at the Feast, 7.11.

b. Much muttering among the people

(1) “He is a good man,” 7.12.

(2) “No, he is leading the people astray,” 7.12.

c. All of this speculation was done in secret for fear of the Jewish leaders, 7.13.
