3. Jesus is at the center of controversy, suspicion, fear, and speculation.
C. The crowd’s response to Jesus’ teaching at the Feast, John 7.14-24
1. Midweek Jesus goes up to the Temple and begins teaching the people, 7.14.
2. The amazement of the people at Jesus’ profound teaching with no credentials, learning, or study backing it up , 7.15.
3. Jesus’ answer to their wonder: I am God’s shaliach (cf. John 7.16 – So Jesus answered them, “My teaching is not mine, but his who sent me.”)
a. John 3.11 – Truly, truly, I say to you, we speak of what we know, and bear witness to what we have seen, but you do not receive our testimony.
b. John 3.31 – He who comes from above is above all. He who is of the earth belongs to the earth and speaks in an earthly way. He who comes from heaven is above all.
c. John 8.28 – So Jesus said to them, “When you have lifted up the Son of Man, then you will know that I am he, and that I do nothing on my own authority, but speak just as the Father taught me.”
d. John 12.49-50 – For I have not spoken on my own authority, but the Father who sent me has himself given me a commandment—what to say and what to speak. [50] And I know that his commandment is
