Gospel of John 09.vp

The Gospe l of John
1. Who brought the woman, 8.3 “scribes and the Pharisees” (biblical experts)
2. What the woman had been doing, 8.3 “caught in adultery” ( in the very act? )
3. Where they placed her, 8.3 “placing her in the midst” (as a spectacle and shame)
4. The test and challenge of the scribes and Pharisees, 8.5-6
a. Empirical evidence: this woman was caught in the very act of adultery.
b. Here is what the Law of Moses commands: stone the woman !
c. So what do you say? (“Mr. Smarty Pants”)
5. The underlying motive of the woman’s accusers, 8.6 (a trap set for Jesus so they would have ammunition against him for further charges)
6. Jesus’ nonchalance to the entire scene, 8.6 (doodling in the dirt)
a. God Almighty wrote the Ten Commandments with his own “finger” (cf. Exod. 31.18; Deut. 9.10).
b. Maybe Jesus was writing the “new commandment” in the ground, see John 13.34-35; 1 John 4.7-8.
