B. Jesus the Teacher, John 8.1-2

1. One of Jesus’ favorite places: the Mount of Olives, a place where Jesus would spend the night if he was in Jerusalem, (cf. John 18.1-2; Luke 22.39; Mark 11.1, 11)

2. Jesus, like many other teachers of his day, often taught in the temple courts, cf. 7.14.

3. As a teacher, Jesus interacted much with the crowds of Israel.

a. Matt. 5.1-2a – Seeing the crowds, he went up on the mountain, and when he sat down, his disciples came to him. [2] And he opened his mouth and taught them.

b. Matt. 26.55 – At that hour Jesus said to the crowds, “Have you come out as against a robber, with swords and clubs to capture me? Day after day I sat in the temple teaching, and you did not seize me.”

c. Luke 5.3 – Getting into one of the boats, which was Simon’s, he asked him to put out a little from the land. And he sat down and taught the people from the boat.

C. The scribes and Pharisees “haul a hapless woman” into the presence of Jesus, 8.3.
