Chapter 5: L i v i ng the Chr i s t L i fe , Ser i es 3

101

6. We are called to have the same mind among ourselves as was in him, Phil. 2.5-11.

7. We are called to suffer with him so to be glorified with him, Rom. 8.16-17 – The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, [17] and if children, then heirs – heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, provided we suffer with him in order that we may also be glorified with him.

8. We overcome with him, and will ultimately reign with him.

a. 1 John 5.4-5 – For everyone who has been born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world – our faith. [5] Who is it that overcomes the world except the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God?

b. Rev. 3.21 – The one who conquers, I will grant him to sit with me on my throne, as I also conquered and sat down with my Father on his throne.

B. Let us make Christ the central passion of our spiritual devotion.

1. Don’t be taken captive by other, lesser themes of ethics, philosophy, or even biblical study, Col. 2.8-10 – See to it that no one takes you captive by philosophy and empty deceit, according to human tradition, according to the elemental spirits of the world, and not according to Christ. [9] For in him the whole fullness of deity dwells bodily, [10] and you have been filled in him, who is the head of all rule and authority.
