2. Your goals and your disciple’s goals are the same: to share the mind, heart, and life of Jesus of Nazareth, Phil. 2.5-11.
E. Focus on the Word of God, not methods and strategies of discipleship.
1. Share with others the things you have learned from the apostolic truth, 2 Tim. 2.2 – and what you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses entrust to faithful men who will be able to teach others also.
2. We grow through the nurture of the unadulterated Word of God, 1 Pet. 2.2 – Like newborn infants, long for the pure spiritual milk, that by it you may grow up to salvation.
F. Ask God to give you a parent’s heart and spirit.
1. Treat every convert as Christ’s newborn babe: Commit no spiritual child abandonment, 1 Thess. 2.10-12 – You are witnesses, and God also, how holy and righteous and blameless was our conduct toward you believers. [11] For you know how, like a father with his children, [12] we exhorted each one of you and encouraged you and charged you to walk in a manner worthy of God, who calls you into his own kingdom and glory. 2. Place the burden of care on yourself, not on your child, to nurture, protect, feed, and love, 2 Cor. 12.14 – Here for the third time I am ready to come to you. And I will not be a burden, for I seek not what is yours but you. For children are not obligated to save up for their parents, but parents for their children.
