G. The Spirit’s Coming: Pentecost – from heaven itself, the Father and the Son have poured out the Holy Spirit, who himself is the down payment of the inheritance to come, on the people of God!
1. The promise of the Spirit was prophesied in Scripture, Joel 2.28-29; Ezek. 36.26-27.
2. The Spirit was sent by God and Christ, Rom. 8.11; John 10.17-18.
3. He arrived on Christ’s followers on the day of Pentecost, Acts 2.1-2; Acts 2.3-4.
4. The Spirit confirms our adoption into God’s family, Gal. 4.6; 1 John 3.24.
5. The Holy Spirit indwells and anoints all believers, 1 Cor. 6.19-20; 1 John 2.27.
H. Christ’s Headship: Season after Pentecost – now reigning at God’s right hand till his enemies are made his footstool, Jesus pours out his benefits on his body, the Church.
