The Art of Engagement, continued

• Better to execute a poor plan than poorly execute a great plan.

Be creative (Matt. 25.14-30).

• Two extremes: rigidity and lack of discipline

Block Tower PWR:

3-yr-old boy/father/toys playing is good; motor skills, bonding building block tower to knock it down

Context: Values: Vision: Alternatives: Priorities: Action:

all same color, all same size, speed, sturdiness speed is best so knocking over can come quickly each put blocks in place; boy decides when it is built to sufficient height; father get out of the way

Instinct ok for simple projects; but for more complex projects, need to follow the steps; e.g. walking versus balance beam, need step-by-step instructions

Review

• Don’t assume what you did was effective.

• Make half-time adjustments (Sanballat, Cornelius, Gideon, Macedonian vision).

• Be reflective. “He who ignores discipline comes to poverty and shame, but whoever heeds correction is honored. He who ignores discipline despises himself, but whoever heeds correction gains understanding” (Prov. 13.18; 15.32).

• Celebrate! (Remember Ed Delahanty’s 65.4% failure rate).
