Equipment Without question, effective technology can be used to dramatically enhance our teaching and training, and should be counted as a great blessing in the furtherance of the Gospel and training disciples and leaders. While this is true, technology can also be the bane of your classroom if you fail to set it up well in advance, and make certain that it works. Wherever technology exists, things usually can and will often go wrong in any setting, but you are less likely to have issues if you set up and test it ahead of time. Do not wait until class time to set up your technologies for class! Instead, always set up laptop/DVD with projector and screen for video projection, and test all connections, making certain all is functioning properly. Supplies Set up whiteboard, markers, and eraser for class discussion. Put out hand cleaner, Kleenex, extra pens/pencils, a quiz basket for students to turn in their completed quizzes, and anything else the students or you may need as you host the class. While detail to items such as these may seem minor, these little touches of thoughtfulness in preparation show your students the excellence that you want them to reflect in all they do. Snacks: To Eat or Not to Eat We encourage satellites to arrange for snacks during class breaks. It is welcoming and hospitable to the students and provides for a refreshing break in the midst of their concentration. Snacks do not need to be costly or tax you in terms of preparation. Popcorn is a tasty, inexpensive, and healthy snack that can provide physical refreshment. You can invite your students to bring snacks to share with everyone, which will help in both cost and variety. Whatever you decide to do – have snacks or not, it is important to allow for a break in the midst of the class to give students a chance to shift their thinking for a few minutes. Strategically arranged and well- ordered breaks enable students to catch their breath, intellectually speaking, and gain some refreshment through drinks, in restroom use, or simply standing up and engaging each other for a few moments. Even if you do not provide snacks, it is good to have coffee and water available for students during their class breaks. Of course, you will need to be sure that you start the coffee early enough for students to receive a cup before class starts.
